Marcos Orders Relief Efforts for Cebu Flood Victims Amidst Palaro Opening

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has mobilized the provincial government of Cebu and various agencies to aid those affected by heavy rains and flash floods in the region. He made this announcement during the inauguration of the 64th Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City on Tuesday.

"This week-long event not only demonstrates the physical and mental strength of our athletes but also showcases the indomitable spirit and heart of the Filipino people," Marcos added, urging the participants to exhibit their talent and dedication with pride and integrity.

While Marcos presided over the opening ceremonies, Vice President Sara Duterte was notably absent, missing one of her final events as head of the Department of Education.

"Currently, our agencies are actively engaged in search and rescue operations," Marcos stated in his address. "Both national and local governments are collaborating closely to provide swift assistance to those impacted by the heavy rains, particularly in Carmen, Minglanilla, and across Cebu."

Marcos also directed the Office of the President and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to extend support to the affected local government units.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, Marcos commended the resilience and dedication of the 541 student-athletes participating in the Palaro. He expressed confidence that these athletes would one day become national and international champions, emphasizing the values of excellence, teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship exemplified during the competition.
